The decentralized derivatives exchange protocol, dYdX, encountered a significant disruption during a planned update, marking a pause in its operations.
This incident began at approximately 6:50 a.m. UTC, as reported in an incident summary. Subsequent on-chain data indicated a cessation in block production shortly thereafter, prompting dYdX’s engineering team to delve into troubleshooting the problem.
This issue marks the protocol’s first considerable downtime since the launch of dYdX version 4 and its dedicated Cosmos blockchain in October, as noted on its status webpage.
The halt in the dYdX Chain’s operations coincided with the implementation of the v4.0.0 protocol upgrade, initially slated for today. Despite the completion of scheduled maintenance by 6:30 a.m. UTC, the system experienced a halt just 20 minutes later.
dYdX issued an update at 9:21 a.m. UTC, indicating that the problem was still under investigation. It was decided that network validators would reconvene at 3 p.m. UTC to further address the issue.
The update clarified, “This means that the devs won’t suggest a workaround or a fix until then so that the validators won’t get jailed for not being online when the chain restarts.” Being “jailed” refers to a temporary exclusion of validators from network participation due to inactivity or failure to meet certain criteria.
