AC Milan Salvages Draw Against Torino, But Paulo Fonseca Admits Team Needs Improvement
AC Milan’s new manager Paulo Fonseca admits his team is not in top form after a 2-2 draw with Torino, despite late goals from Alvaro Morata and Noah Okafor. Fonseca emphasizes the need for improvement ahead of their next match against Parma.
Bollywood Fever: AC Milan’s new manager, Paulo Fonseca, acknowledged that his team is not yet at their best following a dramatic 2-2 draw against Torino at home on Saturday.
The Rossoneri were on the brink of an unexpected defeat before late goals from Alvaro Morata and Noah Okafor secured a point in their Serie A opener.
“I did not expect before the game that we would be perfect at this stage, but I must say our first 45 minutes was not good,” Fonseca told Sky Sport Italia after the match. “We know what these games are like, we must continue working, because there is a lot that needs to be improved.”
The match saw Milan struggle in the first half, with defensive errors — including an own goal by Malick Thiaw — contributing to Torino’s lead. Fonseca, however, emphasized that the issues were not limited to the defense.
“I think it is a collective issue, it’s not just about the defenders. In the first half, we weren’t pressing high and that made it easier for Torino to attack us.”
The second half saw a more aggressive Milan side, with Fonseca noting, “We were more aggressive, won the ball back earlier and had enough opportunities to win the match.”
Alvaro Morata, who scored on his competitive debut for Milan, echoed Fonseca’s sentiments. “It is not a great debut because we didn’t win and we wanted to send a message,” Morata said. “I think we still sent a message, because the team was practically dead and we still turned it around. If there had been another five minutes to play, we would’ve won it.”
Milan will look to build on their late comeback when they face Parma in their next Serie A fixture on Saturday.
