Angel Reese has a new moniker! Previously dubbed the “Bayou Barbie,” the WNBA rookie has now adopted the nickname “Chi Barbie.”
Reese, a standout basketball player from LSU, shared this update on Thursday through a TikTok video, shortly after being picked seventh overall by the Chicago Sky in the WNBA draft. “Hey y’all,” the 21-year-old greeted her followers. “So, it’s the Chi Barbie here.”
Earlier in the week, Reese had reached out to her fans seeking suggestions for a fresh nickname, given the challenge of maintaining a Louisiana-themed name while relocating to Chicago. Among the notable suggestions were “Chiraq Barbie” and “Chief Reese,” a nod to rapper Chief Keef, as well as “Chi-Town Angel.”
Despite the influx of creative ideas, Reese decided on her own to embrace the new identity. “I want y’all to know I’m still gonna be the Bayou Barbie, but I’m going to Chicago now,” she confirmed.
Reese expressed her continued allegiance to both the Bayou region, where LSU is situated, and her native Baltimore, while also sharing her excitement about her forthcoming chapter in Chicago. “So many people done reached out to me,” she remarked, emphasizing the overwhelming support from Chicago. “The love from Chicago is running deep and going crazy!”
“I am the Chi Barbie, I’m the Baltimore Barbie, and I am always gonna be the Bayou Barbie!” she proudly declared.
