Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid achieved a rare milestone by recording his 100th assist of the season, a feat not seen since Wayne Gretzky in 1991. McDavid joins an elite group of NHL legends, with potential for another player, Nikita Kucherov, to reach the same landmark this season.

On Monday night, Edmonton Oilers standout Connor McDavid achieved a historic milestone by recording his 100th assist of the season during a game against the San Jose Sharks, a feat last accomplished by Wayne Gretzky in the 1990–91 season with the Los Angeles Kings where he tallied 122 assists.

McDavid has now joined an exclusive group of NHL legends, becoming only the fourth player in the history of the league to reach 100 assists in a season. This group includes Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr, with Gretzky achieving this milestone in 11 seasons, while Lemieux and Orr each accomplished it once.

During the game, McDavid executed a brilliant play on a two-on-one break with teammate Zach Hyman. He skillfully evaded a defender with a stick move and set up Hyman for a clear shot at the goal. This play exemplified the dynamic McDavid-Hyman duo that Edmonton fans have come to expect and love, making it a fitting moment for McDavid to etch his name into the record books.

Additionally, McDavid might not be the only player to hit the 100-assist mark this NHL season. Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning is close behind, with 99 assists following a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, and with one game remaining in the season.
