Azealia Banks Criticizes Beyoncé for Appealing to White Audiences and Slams Taylor Swift’s Country Music

Beyoncé insists that her “Cowboy Carter” album does not belong to the country genre, yet Azeilia Banks remains skeptical. Banks’ critique has taken center stage over the album’s release news on various social media platforms.

Previously critical of Beyoncé, Banks now argues that the celebrated singer is aiming to win over Caucasian Grammy voters by adopting a country music facade, in hopes of clinching the Album of the Year award. Through an audio recording, Banks further accuses Beyoncé of pandering to Taylor Swift and asserts that Beyoncé is no longer a trendsetter in the music scene.

Banks expresses her disappointment pointedly: “Wow we didn’t even try to put even a little effort into a more artistic title?” She brings up Beyoncé’s 2016 performance of “Daddy Lessons” with The Chicks at the CMAs, criticizing Beyoncé for collaborating with white artists who, in Banks’ view, undermine Black women’s success in the industry.

Despite Beyoncé’s record-breaking number of Grammy wins, she has yet to secure an Album of the Year trophy, a fact highlighted by her husband Jay-Z at a recent Grammy event.

Banks didn’t stop there; she described Beyoncé’s wardrobe choices as “White woman cosplay” and dubbed the “Cowboy Carter” promotional efforts as pandering to white audiences. Banks accuses Jay-Z of overly manipulating the creative direction and suggests that artists like Kelsea Ballerini and Carrie Underwood are more adept at creating quality music.

Moreover, Banks challenges the significance of Beyoncé’s achievement as the first Black woman to top the country charts, pointing out that numerous Black country musicians have long struggled for recognition without the benefits of Beyoncé’s resources and visibility.

In her tirade, Banks laments the absence of the “B’Day Bianca Bardot Beyoncé” era, sarcastically suggesting that fans seeking that version of Beyoncé should revisit her earlier albums.
