Bronny James makes his NBA preseason debut with a chasedown block reminiscent of his father, LeBron James, during the Lakers’ preseason game against the Timberwolves. Read about his first performance.
BollywoodFever: The Los Angeles Lakers kicked off their 2024 preseason against the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking the debut of two highly anticipated figures: new head coach JJ Redick and second-round pick Bronny James. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis sitting out, Bronny seized his first NBA moment early in the second quarter.

Just 45 seconds into the quarter, Bronny delivered a highlight-worthy chasedown block on Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, reminiscent of his father’s iconic defensive play from the 2016 NBA Finals. Bronny shared his excitement with fans on social media, posting the clip and writing, “First NBA block 🔥” on X.
Despite struggling offensively during his six-minute stint—missing his first three shots, including an airball—Bronny displayed solid defense, recording a second block and an assist before halftime. His defensive skills were a promising sign for the Lakers as he works to find his rhythm on the offensive end.
The 19-year-old rookie, drafted 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists during his single season at USC.
