Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid wins the NHL All-Star Skills and takes home $ 1 million
Connor McDavid emerged victorious in the NHL All-Star Skills competition on Friday night, securing the $1 million prize and reinforcing his status as the world’s best hockey player.
The three-time MVP and reigning champion showcased his dominance in the revamped competition, which he believed had previously become too gimmicky. McDavid’s skills were on full display as he excelled in the fastest skater category, claiming his fourth career win, and demonstrated precision in stick-handling, going a perfect 4 for 4 in accuracy shooting.

Edmonton Oilers teammate Leon Draisaitl praised McDavid’s competitive spirit, emphasizing that his success came as no surprise.
Notable performances from Colorado Avalanche players added excitement to the event, with Nathan MacKinnon winning the one-timers event and Cale Makar registering the hardest shot at 102.56 mph. Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev earned $100,000 by making nine saves, all against McDavid, in a one-on-one matchup.
The redesigned skills competition, featuring just 12 players, introduced new elements like prize money. Draisaitl expressed positive sentiments about the changes, suggesting that players enjoyed the format.
Fan reactions varied, with cheers for Maple Leafs All-Stars Auston Matthews and William Nylander and boos for Nikita Kucherov, who faced criticism for perceived lack of effort in certain events. Kucherov acknowledged the crowd after finishing last in the stick-handling race.
Four players, including Kucherov, were eliminated after the initial six events. Connor Bedard, the top pick in the draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, made a surprise appearance as a passer in the one-timers event. Leafs alumni and women’s hockey league players contributed as passers in the accuracy shooting category, adding diversity to the showcase.
