CSK would let MS Dhoni play even if he was on a wheelchair

Bollywoodfever, March 15: As long as MS Dhoni’s wicketkeeping skills remain intact and his knees are in good condition, there’s a possibility that the celebrated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player might participate in several more Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, according to former Indian wicketkeeper Robin Uthappa. Dhoni, who has successfully led CSK to their fifth IPL championship, continues to play despite knee problems that have been a concern since he first joined the league in 2008.

“CSK would allow him to play even if he needed a wheelchair! He could leave the wheelchair, bat, and then return to it,” Uthappa remarked during an episode of JioCinema’s ‘Legends Lounge’. He further mentioned, “Batting will never be a problem for him. It’s the wicketkeeping that’s the concern. His knees are deteriorating, and he’s passionate about ‘keeping. If he finds himself unable to keep wickets and contribute effectively, he’d likely retire from the game rather than for any other reason.”

Eoin Morgan, the former England captain who also appeared on the show, shared his thoughts, stating that Dhoni would step down the moment he feels he can no longer play. “He’s someone who writes his own destiny,” Morgan observed. He added that if Dhoni’s knee issues are as severe as Uthappa suggests, his time in the game might be limited because he would not want to burden the franchise due to his personal challenges. Dhoni values the franchise’s success and would prefer to pass the baton to someone else, reflecting his generous nature.

The Chennai Super Kings are scheduled to face the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024 season opener on March 22 at their home venue, the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai.
