Dorival Junior’s Debut Win with Brazil Marks Beginning of Revival Journey

Dorival Junior starts his tenure as Brazil’s coach with a significant 1-0 victory over England at Wembley, signaling the first step towards rejuvenating the five-time World Cup champions amid their current slump in World Cup qualifying. The match featured a historic goal by young prodigy Endrick, highlighting a new era for Brazilian football.

In his debut as Brazil’s coach, Dorival Junior celebrated a 1-0 win against England at Wembley, viewing it as a foundational step towards reviving the fortunes of the five-time World Cup champions. Currently positioned sixth in their South American qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup, Brazil’s recent performance downturn led to Fernando Diniz’s dismissal earlier this year.

Dorival expressed the significance of the win, highlighting the rarity of Brazilian victories in England and emphasizing the beginning of a long journey ahead. “It’s a really special moment, for sure,” Dorival shared with the media. “On only a few occasions has a Brazil side won in England which must say something about us. But we must not lose sight of the fact that this is just the start of our work.”

Taking over from Diniz, the ex-Sao Paulo coach Dorival faced challenges, including numerous injuries among key players. Despite these hurdles, he introduced five new players to the starting lineup against England. “I have a lot of trust in these boys,” he remarked. “I am hoping for a lot more from this team, but I think this shows what we are capable of going forward.”

The match’s decisive moment came from 17-year-old Endrick, who scored in the 80th minute, making him the youngest male to score for Brazil in a senior international match at Wembley. Dorival praised Endrick’s potential impact on Brazilian and global football, especially as he prepares to transfer to Real Madrid from Palmeiras in July. He also explained his choice to play Endrick over the more seasoned Richarlison, noting the latter’s ongoing recovery from an injury.

Brazil is set to face Spain in Madrid on Tuesday, marking the next challenge for Dorival’s squad.
