Alongside the cover reveal, Mendes shared a rare flashback photo of herself holding one of her daughters, Esmeralda, nine, whom she shares with partner Ryan Gosling. The couple also has a seven-year-old daughter named Amada.

In the post’s caption, Mendes described her book as “a true labor of love,” inspired by her own experiences as a mother to her two daughters.

“Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries” tells the story of a young girl who conquers her fear of monsters with the help of her mother.

Speaking to People magazine, Mendes expressed that the book is “a love letter to my kids and yours,” emphasizing the universality of its themes.

Drawing parallels between her own family life and the book’s narrative, Mendes explained, “At my home and in Desi’s, we try to deal with the never-ending worries and anxieties that we all have, so those negative thoughts don’t take over and dominate.”

Mendes also highlighted her excitement for the book to be available in both English and Spanish, reflecting her commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

Reflecting on her personal experiences, Mendes shared, “Inspired by our own nightly events with my daughters, Desi and Mami learn from each other on facing our monsters — whether under our bed or in our head.”

The actress and her partner, Ryan Gosling, whom she met while filming “The Place Beyond the Pines” in 2011, have since built a family together. They welcomed Esmeralda in September 2014 and Amada in 2016.
