Gerry Turner has filed for divorce from Theresa Nist in Petersburg, Indiana, citing the marriage’s irretrievable breakdown. The couple, who married shortly after meeting on “The Golden Bachelor,” announced their decision during a “Good Morning America” appearance, revealing ongoing challenges and a mutual decision to part ways.
Gerry Turner has officially filed for divorce from Theresa Nist, as confirmed by Us Weekly. The 72-year-old lodged the divorce papers in his hometown of Petersburg, Indiana, on Friday, April 12, marking the same day as their official date of separation. He cited the “irretrievable breakdown” of their marriage as the reason for the dissolution.
Earlier that day, both Turner and Nist, 70, appeared on “Good Morning America” where they publicly acknowledged their decision to part ways. “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations,” Turner shared during the broadcast. “We’ve looked closely at our living situations and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s time for us to dissolve our marriage. The things that strike me the most in our conversations it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families. So, we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
He added, “I still love this person, there’s no doubt in my mind. I root for her every day.”
The couple, who met and got engaged during the first season of “The Golden Bachelor” in November 2023 and married two months later, had planned to settle down together in a joint home, potentially in New Jersey or South Carolina. However, they had yet to finalize their living arrangements, and rumors of their separation began to circulate earlier in the month.
On “Good Morning America,” Nist remarked on the challenges they faced while house-hunting: “We looked at homes in South Carolina [and] we considered New Jersey,” she said. “We just looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.”
Both Turner and Nist, who each have two adult children and multiple grandchildren from their previous marriages to their late high school sweethearts, have a prenuptial agreement in place, which includes returning their Neil Lane wedding and engagement rings.
This marks the second marriage for both individuals, who had previously been widowed before their time on “The Golden Bachelor.”
