Welch gained internet fame after her video, in which she used the term ‘Hawk Tuah’ to describe spitting as part of a sexual act, went viral. Since its posting on June 19, the video has sparked hundreds of memes and made Welch an internet sensation.
Seizing the opportunity, Welch has partnered with Tennessee-based hat company Fathead Threads to sell her own line of hats, as identified by OutKick. “I have been authorized to sell these hats after a conversation with Hailey. She will be receiving a portion of the profits from sales,” Jason Poteete from Fathead Threads shared on Facebook.
The company has shared photos of Welch autographing two different types of hats: one with a leather patch and one embroidered. These hats are now available for purchase.
The prices for the merchandise are as follows: unsigned embroidered ‘Hawk Tuah’ hats are $32.70, signed caps are $43.70, hats with a leather ‘Hawk Tuah’ patch and an autograph are $50, and unsigned versions are $40.
Chelsea Bradford, Welch’s friend who appeared alongside her in the viral video, celebrated the merch line on Facebook, stating, “Finally someone giving my girl commission.”
The ‘Hawk Tuah’ phenomenon has not only boosted Welch’s fame but also captured the attention of sports fans. During Bryson DeChambeau’s second round at the LIV Golf event in Nashville, a fan shouted the phrase as DeChambeau launched a 3-wood shot towards the 10th hole, further propelling the phrase into the spotlight.
The catchphrase has even infiltrated social media, with commenters flooding Olivia Dunne’s Instagram post featuring her and MLB boyfriend Paul Skenes with the phrase. In response to a GIF of Welch’s viral moment, Dunne humorously replied, “Leave Miss Tuah out of this.”
Memes featuring ‘Hawk Tuah’ have taken the internet by storm. One X user shared a photo of two men wearing hockey jerseys with the phrase on their backs, captioning it, “This city is ALIVE.” Others have edited Welch’s face onto Tony Hawk’s PlayStation game cover and a scene from “The Lion King” with the caption, “Hawk Tuah Matata.”
Another X user humorously commented, “Me liking every Hawk Tuah video and meme,” accompanied by a video of elderly people robotically playing slot machines. One meme even edited a video game cartridge into the viral moment with the caption, “when your game wouldn’t start.”
