Heated Exchange Over Golf Games, Biden calls “You Are A Child”
The presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump took a personal turn as the two candidates clashed over their golf games, highlighting voter concerns about their age and cognitive abilities.
United States, Bollywood Fever: The presidential debate nearly went off the rails as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump traded jabs about each other’s golf games. The heated exchange occurred after both candidates addressed questions from CNN moderator Dana Bash about voter concerns regarding their age. Biden, 81, gave meandering answers while Trump, 78, boasted about acing cognitive tests.

“Let’s not act like children,” Trump said towards the end of the debate, which featured numerous insults and accusations of lying. Biden retorted, “You are a child.”
Trump bragged about his performance during physicals at the White House. “I took two cognitive tests, I aced them both,” he said, criticizing Biden for not taking the tests. Biden grinned during the attack as the barbs grew increasingly personal.
Trump boasted about winning two club championships at his own Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach. “To do that, you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way. And I do it. He doesn’t do it. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards.”
Biden appeared to mock Trump for exaggerating his height and weight. “You can see he is 6 foot five and only 225 pounds,” Biden quipped, as Trump shook his head. “I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him.” Biden claimed his golf handicap was down to a 6, causing Trump to show a pained expression of disbelief.
“I’d be happy to play golf with you if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?” Biden challenged. Trump reiterated, “Let’s not act like children.” Biden shot back, “You are a child,” getting in the last word.
After the debate, Trump posted a video of himself hitting a long drive, indicating golf was still on his mind. He had telegraphed the golf attack online before the debate, giving Biden’s team time to prepare. Biden had previously taunted Trump in March after Trump announced his golf wins at his private club, writing on X, “Congratulations, Donald. Quite the accomplishment.”
The country club clash came during an election where voters are expressing concerns about Biden’s age. There was a burden on Biden to demonstrate vigor during the debate, but some top Democratic operatives were reportedly panicking after Biden gave meandering answers and sometimes lost his train of thought, staring downward during Trump’s responses.
