Thomas Tuchel names Ivan Toney in his second England squad despite move to Saudi Arabia. Trevoh Chalobah earns first call-up; Bowen and Wharton miss out.
Thomas Tuchel has named his second England squad ahead of June’s fixtures — a World Cup qualifier against Andorra and a friendly against Senegal — and it comes with some surprise names and notable omissions.
After back-to-back wins in his first two games in charge — a 2-0 victory over Albania and a 3-0 win against Latvia — Tuchel has opted for a mix of experience, form, and a few bold calls as England aim to build momentum.
The standout headline? Ivan Toney is back in the mix.
Yes, the former Brentford striker, now playing in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ahli, has been recalled despite turning his back on the Premier League. Toney’s form overseas has been electric — 22 goals in 29 appearances — putting him second in the Saudi scoring charts, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and ahead of Karim Benzema and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Toney made his England debut in 2023 and scored his first international goal in a 2024 draw against Belgium. He’s also remembered for his cool no-look penalty against Switzerland at Euro 2024. His last cap came in the final of that tournament against Spain.
Here’s the full squad Tuchel has picked:
Goalkeepers:
Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, James Trafford
Defenders:
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dan Burn, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Reece James, Ezri Konsa, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kyle Walker
Midfielders:
Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Morgan Gibbs-White, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers
Forwards:
Eberechi Eze, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins
One of the biggest feel-good stories in the squad is Trevoh Chalobah. After impressive spells at Crystal Palace and Chelsea, the defender has earned his first England call-up. He’s the only uncapped player in Tuchel’s latest lineup.
But not everyone will be celebrating. West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is arguably the most unlucky omission. He’s been in red-hot form with four goals and two assists in his last five games, but that wasn’t enough to earn a spot this time around.
Meanwhile, rising Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton is expected to join the England Under-21 squad. He’s been a standout for the Eagles, but the senior call-up will have to wait — for now.
England will face Andorra at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium in Barcelona on June 7 in their third World Cup qualifier. Then, they’ll host Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on June 10.
