Jerry Seinfeld Calls Hugh Grant a 'Pain in the Ass' to Direct in New Film 'Unfrosted'

In somewhat unsurprising news, Jerry Seinfeld has referred to Hugh Grant as a “pain in the ass” to direct. However, in Grant’s defense, Seinfeld mentioned that he was forewarned about the actor’s behavior by Grant himself.

During an interview with Graham Bensinger about his directorial debut in Netflix’s “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld discussed how he assembled his star-studded cast. “It was fun, it was crazy, but the people that I had around me, people like Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, and Amy Schumer are so funny … I just asked them [to be in the film], except for Hugh Grant,” he said. “He called me and he said, ‘I would like to be Tony the Tiger,’ I went, ‘You’re Tony the Tiger,’ he said ‘Do I have to do an American accent?’ I said, ‘No, do whatever you want!'”

Despite Seinfeld being a long-time fan of Grant and describing him as charming and debonair, there were some tense moments on set between them. When asked if directing was harder than expected, Seinfeld initially said, “not with the amazing people that I had.” However, he later admitted, “I mean Hugh Grant was a total pain in the ass, which he told me he would be, we had so many fun fights.”

Seinfeld recalled one argument within the props department, where he had to intervene and remind everyone that they were making a “Pop Tart movie,” emphasizing that “none of this matters, we will not have any screaming, this is not important.”

“Unfrosted” revolves around the rivalry between cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post, and the invention of Pop-Tarts, an idea Seinfeld has pondered for some time. He had previously tweeted about thinking of “an invention of the [Pop-Tart] movie” back in 2018.
