“It is…[but] I don’t want to say too much,” Lohan disclosed, expressing shared enthusiasm with Curtis about the project.
Disney confirmed in May 2023 that the beloved body-swap comedy, originally released in 2003, is slated for a sequel, with Curtis and Lohan being discussed for their return to the franchise.
The possibility of reprising their memorable roles has been a topic of conversation between Lohan and Curtis for some time.
In a New York Times interview commemorating the film’s 20th anniversary, they discussed future collaborations.
Curtis revealed that the idea for a sequel was spurred by fan inquiries and suggestions she encountered while promoting “Halloween Ends.”
As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday. Something really touched a chord,” Curtis said. She subsequently contacted Disney to propose a new installment.
“Jamie and I are both open to that,” Lohan noted, leaving the decision to the powers that be.
Reflecting on their experience, Lohan and Curtis shared insights gained from the film, particularly regarding parenting.
Lohan, who became a mother in July 2023, emphasized the importance of patience and allowing children to discover their paths within reasonable limits. Curtis, a mother of two, learned the value of withholding judgment and embracing active listening.
“Our sizing up as parents – whether it’s about shoes, clothes, or food – is always forward-thinking. ‘Freaky Friday’ taught me to stay present,” Curtis elaborated.
Lohan also indulged in nostalgia during a “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” appearance, where she referenced her 1998 movie, “The Parent Trap.” A playful exchange involving Oreos and peanut butter highlighted the film’s memorable moment, delighting fans with a nod to her dual role as separated-at-birth twins Hallie Parker and Annie James.
