Australia, Bollywood Fever: A man searching for gold in Victoria has made a stunning discovery worth $100,000.
Luke Phillips, who runs the Dig It Detecting YouTube channel, struck gold while prospecting in Ballarat back in May, uncovering a massive nugget that could change his life.
Phillips had been exploring the area with a metal detector when he picked up a faint signal beneath a tree log.
After more than an hour of digging, he and his friend were left speechless as they unearthed a fist-sized gold nugget.
“What a f***ing clump mate,” his friend exclaimed as he pulled the nugget from the ground, with Phillips laughing in disbelief and sharing a high five.
Estimating the nugget at around 10 ounces, they speculated its value to be close to $100,000.
The nugget ultimately weighed in at a staggering 21 ounces of gold, along with seven additional ounces of quartz, according to 9News.
While the gold alone could be worth about $80,000 based on current market prices, the nugget’s size could fetch a higher price.
For Phillips, a father of two who had to stop full-time work due to health issues, the discovery is life-changing. “I’m not a rich man, so to me, it is life changing,” he told 9News.
“It’s not something I’m going to retire on, of course, but it will pay some bills off and we can put a bit on the mortgage or buy a car.”
This unexpected find not only holds significant financial value but also marks a milestone in Phillips’ gold prospecting adventures, as he noted, “Nothing will ever probably beat the excitement of finding this big guy right here, not unless I find a bigger one.”
