Matheus Cunha Scores Twice to Secure 2-2 Draw for Wolves Against Nottingham Forest

Matheus Cunha’s brace helped Wolverhampton secure a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, with both teams battling defensive errors and missed opportunities in a tense Premier League clash at the City Ground.

Matheus Cunha marked his return to Wolverhampton Wanderers’ starting lineup with two goals, salvaging a 2-2 draw against a Nottingham Forest side that struggled to convert their dominance into a win at the City Ground on Saturday.

Cunha opened the scoring with an impressive solo effort, dribbling past defenders and curling the ball into the net just before the first half ended. However, the lead was short-lived as Morgan Gibbs-White headed in an equalizer from Gio Reyna’s corner right before halftime, a moment Forest’s goalkeeper Jose Sa would likely want to forget.

As the second half began, Forest took the lead through a somewhat chaotic sequence that saw Danilo capitalize from close range after multiple failed clearances by Wolves’ defenders. Despite controlling the game and creating numerous chances, Forest could not secure the victory.

The match saw its final twist when Wolves’ goalkeeper Matz Sels misjudged a punch, inadvertently setting up Cunha for his second goal of the game. The strike ensured that the points were shared, despite Wolves’ desperate attempts to climb higher in the league standings.

Forest, battling against relegation and a recent decision to deduct four points for breaching financial regulations, now sits just above the drop zone with 26 points. The draw leaves them only one point ahead of 18th-placed Luton Town.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the former Wolves manager now leading Forest, expressed disappointment over his team’s defensive errors and missed opportunities in front of goal, viewing the result as two points lost in their fight for Premier League survival.

Wolves, hindered by injuries, remain in 11th place with 43 points, and this result virtually extinguishes their slim hopes for European qualification next season.
