Murray Withdraws from Monte Carlo and Munich Tournaments Owing to Ankle Injury

BollywoodFever, March 29: Andy Murray will be absent from next month’s Monte Carlo Masters and Munich Open as he recovers from a significant ankle injury incurred during his departure from the Miami Open, as confirmed by the British athlete’s team on Friday.

The 36-year-old experienced a severe ankle roll during the final set of his match against Czech player Tomas Machac in southern Florida last Sunday, resulting in a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(5) loss and subsequent ligament rupture. Murray had previously indicated his recovery would require an “extended period” off the court.

“Following consultation with his team and medical experts, Andy Murray has taken the decision to miss the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters and BMW Open Munich,” his team’s statement revealed. The duration of Murray’s absence remains uncertain as he explores treatment options with his medical advisors.

The news marks a disappointing turn for Murray, who has expressed a keen interest in returning to play as soon as possible. The former world number one and winner of three Grand Slam titles had made a notable comeback following hip resurfacing surgery in 2019.

Despite contemplating retirement beyond this summer and expressing a desire to participate in another Olympics, Murray had his sights set on playing at the French Open, commencing May 26 at Roland Garros.

With Wimbledon, a tournament Murray has won twice, starting on July 1 and the Paris Games following later in the month, his participation in upcoming major events remains in question. The Monte Carlo Masters is scheduled for April 7-14, followed by the Munich Open from April 15-21.
