Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, has been charged with a felony following his third DWI arrest. This latest legal issue arises as his son leads the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL.
Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL sensation Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, is now facing a felony charge after being arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) ahead of his son’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.
As previously mentioned, this arrest led to Mahomes Sr. being charged with a third or subsequent DWI by the authorities in Tyler, Texas.
In a recent incident prior to this, the Chiefs quarterback’s father was detained under suspicion of DWI, marking his third such charge. The 53-year-old found himself incarcerated over a weekend due to this offense.
The law specifies that a third DWI charge, indicating habitual offenses, is considered a third-degree felony, carrying penalties of up to a $10,000 fine and a maximum of ten years in a state penitentiary.
The legal framework also outlines a mandatory minimum of two years and up to ten years of imprisonment for a third DWI conviction, with a non-negotiable minimum jail term of ten days for those on probation, as per the plea agreement conditions.
Mahomes is now officially charged with a third-degree felony and is awaiting trial proceedings.
Records reveal that Mahomes had a previous DWI arrest in 2018, leading to a 40-day jail term served over weekends from February 2019 to February 2020.
With his history of arrests, Mahomes has accumulated a number of mugshots in the legal system.
