Reba McEntire Describes Marriage to Narvel Blackstock as ‘Strictly Business’
Bollywoodfever, March 1: Over a decade since her separation from Narvel Blackstock, Reba McEntire recently shared insights into their past relationship.
During her visit to The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday, March 1, McEntire, 68, characterized their union as predominantly focused on their professional lives.
“In our case, the blend of personal and professional life was constant. We were always in work mode, from the moment we teamed up in the band, through his role as my manager, and even after he became my husband. It was an arrangement deeply intertwined with business, affecting everything from our morning routines to our conversations at night,” she explained.
This approach to their relationship didn’t pause even during vacations, according to McEntire.
“A few days into any holiday meant for relaxation, we’d inevitably start brainstorming work ideas,” she reminisced.
McEntire and Blackstock, 67, tied the knot in 1989 and went their separate ways in 2015, concluding with Blackstock receiving a significant $47.5 million settlement. The couple shares a son, Shelby, and McEntire remains close to Blackstock’s three children from a previous marriage, including Kelly Clarkson’s former husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Despite the substantial financial aspects of their divorce, McEntire and Narvel emphasized that their parting was conducted with mutual respect.
Their divorce announcement highlighted their intention to maintain a supportive stance towards each other, noting, “Despite the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so.”
McEntire also spoke about her son Shelby, who recently celebrated his 34th birthday and is a professional race car driver. She shared the emotional challenges of watching him compete, especially at high-profile events like the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
“Watching Shelby race, especially at Daytona, was nerve-wracking. Seeing him in that car, all I could envision was my little boy behind that helmet. It was overwhelming, but it’s important to let them pursue their passions. Just like Mama did,” she shared.
Currently, McEntire is in a relationship with actor Rex Linn. She recounted to Drew Barrymore how, despite knowing each other for years, there was a particular night when their connection became undeniable.
“We’ve been in touch over the years through a mutual friend and always kept in contact. Yet, there was something extraordinary about that night that drew me to him irresistibly,” she recounted.
