The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is said to come with an improved camera setup over the predecessor, while the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is said to come with the same camera as the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Samsung’s next big product launch event is officially August 10.

After an earlier leak from Evan Blass, aka Evleaks, nailed down this date, Samsung’s Twitter account more or less confirmed the report with a puzzle with “081022” as the answer.

Expected at the show are the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and the Buds2 Pro earbuds.

Samsung has great timing because more leaks have also come out today. Blass and 91Mobiles have posted official renders of both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.

The exterior design of both devices hasn’t changed much, but rumor has it we’re looking at a lot of dimension and internal changes.

Leaker Ice universe claims the Galaxy Fold is once again expected to get a bit shorter and wider.

The exterior Fold 3 screen is very short and skinny, which can lead to layout problems, a general cramped feeling, and a small keyboard. Going shorter and wider with the Z Fold 4 will get the front screen closer to a normal phone aspect ratio.

On the inside, shorter and wider should help with media and split-screen content, where the split will be closer to two normal smartphones next to each other.

The August 10 event will be livestreamed across Samsung’s YouTube channel, the Samsung Newsroom, and the company’s social media handles at 6:30PM IST on August 10.

“Unfold Your World,” Samsung said in its invite for the event, a clear indication of what the company has in store for users.

“Innovation isn’t just about radical ideas; it’s about unlocking new experiences that transform our daily lives for the better.

Meaningful innovations go beyond the technical and provide a platform upon which our everyday lives become richer and more versatile — opening us up to greater possibilities than ever before,” Samsung said in the invite.

Rumored specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset.

The eagerly anticipated foldable smartphone is set to feature a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging and a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3X zoom.

The smartphone is also expected to come with a foldable 7.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 6.2-inch secondary AMOLED screen with an HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is said to come with a new and thinner hinge, a lighter body, and wider screens.

The device runs on Android 12, and will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also said to come with improved cameras over its predecessor with a 50-megapixel primary shooter, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter.

Up front, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is said to come with a 10-megapixel selfie camera on outer display, and a 16-megapixel selfie snapper on the folding display.

Expected price and launch timeline

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to be cheaper than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Rumours claim Samsung will offer a cheaper entry-level variant with 128GB of storage in order to lower the starting price.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes in two variants – one with 256GB of storage and one with 512GB of internal storage.

As mentioned above, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is tipped for an August 10th launch. Some sources claim the smartphone will go on sale on August 26th.

Most reports contain some kind of vague whisper of Samsung reworking the hinge design with the goal of either lightening the weight of the phone or trying to reduce the display crease.

I haven’t seen any concrete explanations of what Samsung is up to, though.

The specs should be the usual flagship fare, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC coming to all countries.

We’ll know a lot more about what’s going on inside this phone in just a few weeks.
