Savannah Chrisley celebrates as her mom Julie’s prison sentence is overturned, marking a significant development in the Chrisley family’s legal battle. The fight continues as Todd Chrisley remains behind bars.
Bollywood Fever: Savannah Chrisley has shared her thoughts on a significant update in her family’s legal saga.
Following the overturning of her mother Julie Chrisley’s prison sentence, the “Growing Up Chrisley” star took to Instagram on June 24, posting the court ruling with the caption, “The fight never ends,” accompanied by a hands-raised emoji.
On June 21, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Julie’s seven-year sentence for tax evasion and bank fraud. The appeals panel found insufficient evidence to prove her involvement in the bank fraud scheme when it began in 2006, ordering a resentencing to consider only the crimes she was convicted of after 2007.
“The district court did not identify the evidence it relied on to hold Julie accountable for losses incurred before 2007, and we cannot independently find it in the record,” the judges explained. “So, we vacate Julie’s sentence and remand solely for the district court to make the factual findings and calculations necessary to determine loss, restitution, and forfeiture as to Julie and to resentence her accordingly.”
The case will now proceed to a lower court for a new judgment on Julie’s sentencing.
However, the convictions of Julie, her husband Todd Chrisley, and their accountant Peter Tarantino were upheld. Todd continues to serve his 12-year sentence. Peter is also seeking to overturn his conviction and has requested a new trial, according to the Associated Press.
The Chrisley family’s attorney, Alex Little, commented on the legal development on June 22, telling People, “We’re pleased that the Court agreed that Julie’s sentence was improper, but we’re obviously disappointed that it rejected Todd’s appeal.”
He added that they will persist in challenging the convictions.
“The family appreciates the continued support they’ve received throughout this process,” the lawyer noted. “And they’re hopeful for more good news in the future.”
