South Africa’s Rugby World Cup resilience fuels confidence as they seek a fourth consecutive win over New Zealand in Cape Town. Cheslin Kolbe highlights the Springboks’ belief and preparation for tough challenges.

Bollywood Fever: South Africa’s remarkable resilience in last year’s Rugby World Cup knockout stages has bolstered the Springboks’ belief that no challenge is too great, as they prepare for a highly anticipated clash against New Zealand in Cape Town on Saturday.

The reigning world champions are aiming for a fourth successive victory over the All Blacks.

The Springboks famously won their three Rugby World Cup knockout games in Paris by a single point, including a thrilling comeback in the final against New Zealand.

They have continued that trend of nerve-wracking finishes, most recently overcoming a 10-point deficit with 12 minutes left in their Rugby Championship home test at Ellis Park last weekend.

According to wing Cheslin Kolbe, this ability to bounce back is no accident but rather a product of rigorous preparation. “

The coaches put us in scenarios through the week, whether we either (simulate being) a man down, or 10 or 15 points behind. What is the plan from there?” Kolbe explained to reporters.

Kolbe noted that in the past, the Springboks struggled to recover from such deficits against the All Blacks, but now the team’s character and belief allow them to persevere.

“It just shows the character of this group, the belief of each player, and the willingness not to give up.”

The Springboks did face a setback in July, when they failed to close out a home test against Ireland and lost to a drop goal after the hooter, sharing the series 1-1. Kolbe acknowledged that maintaining consistency against top-tier opponents like New Zealand has been challenging.

“We have struggled in the past winning consecutive games against the same teams,” he said.

Kolbe expects a fierce contest from New Zealand, noting their explosive starts and ability to catch teams off guard.

“They are a team with a lot of skill all around the field. In the past, it has been all about that fast start they come with, and they catch you off guard,” Kolbe said. “They caught us out at Ellis Park a few times, but we managed to hang in there and pull it through at the end.”

As the Springboks gear up for another intense battle, Kolbe remains confident that their preparation and hard work will pay off come Saturday.
