SZA Shocked by Audience Behavior During Australian Concert

SZA was left shocked and upset after experiencing what she described as “crazy” behavior from the audience, which threatened her safety during a performance in Australia.

Audience members captured footage of fans throwing items, including cell phones and shoes, at SZA, 34, during her first-ever concert at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Tuesday, April 30. The incident led the pop sensation to threaten to end her performance, holding up an item thrown at her and telling the crowd, “I will leave. Do not throw up any cell phones, I’m a person. That’s crazy.“

Amid the chaos, another attendee in the raised seating area did a handstand, lost balance, and fell onto another audience member.

Security guards were seen in other footage trying to control a fan involved in a physical fight in the general admission area.

The incident left SZA shaken, and her fans took to social media to criticize the audience’s behavior. One fan wrote, “Melbourne be ruining everything, behaving like their ugly muggy weather,” while another said, “You had one f–king job Melbourne, now she won’t want to come back to Australia!” Others lamented the decline in concert etiquette, with one user saying, “Concert etiquette has gone out the window. Should be ashamed of themselves!” Another simply remarked, “Disgusting.”

Despite the incident, SZA is continuing her SOS Tour and is scheduled to return to the United States for her next set of dates. She is set to perform in Sacramento, California, on Saturday, May 5, and at Gazebo Festival in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 25 and 26. She will then resume overseas dates in June in Spain, France, and Portugal.

SZA started the year off in good form, securing a win at the 2024 Grammys for Best R&B Song.

“I’m sorry, I’m just really overwhelmed. You don’t really understand, I came really, really far and I can’t believe this is happening. It feels very fake,” she said during her acceptance speech before noticing Taylor Swift. “Hi, Taylor, I love you.”
