Maxey’s seven points in the final 25 seconds of regulation proved decisive for Philadelphia. Trailing by six points with 28 seconds remaining, Maxey orchestrated a comeback reminiscent of Reggie Miller’s iconic performance in 1995. He converted a crucial four-point play and then hit a game-tying three-pointer from the logo, forcing the game into a dramatic overtime.
Despite Jalen Brunson’s 40-point effort for the Knicks, who had their sights set on a Game 1 matchup in the second round at MSG, the game slipped away. Now, the series, which appeared all but over, is headed for a thrilling Game 6 in Philadelphia, with the Knicks’ lead cut to 3-2.
Joel Embiid, despite his pre-game struggles and boos from the home crowd, contributed significantly. He didn’t score as prolifically as usual but played a pivotal role in the Sixers’ rally. Maxey, on the other hand, was the star of the night, showing no signs of fatigue as he led the scoring for Philadelphia.
The Sixers’ stunning victory silenced the MSG crowd, including celebrities like Ben Stiller, Carmelo Anthony, Julianne Moore, and others who were in attendance for the intense matchup. The Knicks now face a tough challenge in Game 6, needing to regroup and secure a win to avoid a Game 7 showdown.
