Travis Kelce’s Foundation Contributes $100,000 to Support Victims of Kansas City Shooting
Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is giving back. Through his Eighty-Seven & Running charity, he donated $100,000 to the Reyes family on Friday.
The family’s two daughters, aged 8 and 10, were injured in a shooting at the team’s Super Bowl victory parade on Wednesday.
Kelce’s charity, which aims to empower disadvantaged youth by providing resources and support in education, business, athletics, STEM, and the arts, made two $50,000 payments on GoFundMe to support the family.
As of Friday evening, the Reyes family’s fundraising page had exceeded its $100,000 goal by nearly $75,000. In a press release on Friday, the family stated that the donations would cover the girls’ medical expenses, with any surplus funds going towards their college funds.
The press release mentioned that the girls are “making good progress in their recovery” after undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds to their legs. They will both require casts for several months and will have follow-up appointments over the next few years.
Patrick Mahomes visited the family in the hospital, and the family expressed gratitude for the continued support and requested thoughts and prayers for emotional healing.
Kelce was actively involved in determining the needs of the victims and providing assistance. His girlfriend, Taylor Swift, also donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe in memory of one of the shooting victims.
Two juveniles have been charged in connection with the shooting and are currently detained on gun-related charges and resisting arrest. The investigation is ongoing, with the Kansas City Police Department continuing to gather information about the incident, which resulted from an apparent dispute.
