19-year-old Wesley Wang has become the youngest person in history to secure a deal with a major studio to direct a feature-length film, with his award-winning short film ‘nothing, except everything’ set to be adapted into a full-length movie.
The accomplished YouTuber and content creator produced his short during his senior year of high school. Released on his YouTube channel in September 2024, ‘nothing, except everything’ quickly went viral, eventually winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Indy Shorts Film Festival in Indianapolis.
Deadline reported exclusively that the rights to adapt Wang’s short were highly contested, with four major studios vying for the opportunity. Ultimately, TriStar emerged victorious, securing Wang as the writer and director for the big-screen adaptation, with Darren Aronofsky‘s Protozoa Pictures on board to produce.
The official synopsis for ‘nothing, except everything’ reads: “A graduating high schooler navigates a world of seemingly inevitable chaos by finding order in the number 7.”
Wang’s achievement as the youngest director signed by a major film studio is just one of many remarkable accomplishments for the budding Hollywood star. A notable chess player, he has won the national championship 11 times and is currently pursuing his studies at Harvard University.
Among his other short films are Faces, Eve, and Mute. As of now, casting details for the feature film adaptation of ‘nothing, except everything’ have not been announced, nor has a release date been confirmed.
