YSR Congress Party Confirms 4% Muslim Reservation

In the ongoing debate between the BJP and Opposition leaders regarding reservation and minority quota, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stated, “4 per cent of Muslim reservations will remain, and that is YSR Congress Party’s final word on it.” He made this announcement at a public gathering in Kurnool, where he criticized Chandrababu Naidu for his stance on the issue, accusing him of playing politics by aligning with the BJP while also trying to appeal to minority voters. Reddy questioned Naidu’s alliance with the NDA despite its intentions to cancel the 4 per cent reservation.

Regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Reddy emphasized the importance of the election in determining the future of ongoing schemes and household development. He warned that voting for Naidu would halt the progress and welfare initiatives of the current government.

Criticizing Naidu’s tenure as Chief Minister, Reddy questioned the impact of Naidu’s policies on the poor over the past 14 years. He highlighted his government’s efforts in providing welfare without discrimination based on religion, caste, community, or political affiliation.

Previously, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s comments on Muslim reservation had stirred controversy and drew criticism from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Yadav had expressed support for extending reservation benefits to Muslims based on social backwardness rather than religion.

The Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled for May 13, with vote counting set for June 4. In the 2019 Assembly elections, the YSRCP secured a significant victory with 151 seats, while the TDP managed only 23 seats. In the Lok Sabha polls, the YSRCP won 22 seats, compared to the TDP’s three seats.
