Virat Kohli once again stole the spotlight with his exceptional performance in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL match held on Thursday in Dharamsala. Kohli showcased his prowess both with the bat and in the field, drawing attention with his outstanding skills.
Despite some early luck, having been dropped on 0 and 10 by Punjab Kings, Kohli capitalized on these chances and went on to score a remarkable 92 off just 47 balls. His innings proved crucial in setting up RCB’s imposing total of 241 for 7.
In a remarkable fielding display, Kohli executed a ‘Superman’ effort, effecting a run-out with a direct hit while running in from the boundary to dismiss Punjab’s Shashank Singh, who had scored a quick 37 off 19 balls. This moment of brilliance further highlighted Kohli’s contribution to RCB’s victory.
Punjab’s chase faltered, and they were eventually bowled out for 181, losing by a significant margin of 60 runs. Kohli’s stellar performance not only kept RCB in the race for the playoffs but also earned him praise as he continued to lead the run-scoring charts with 634 runs in 12 innings.
Reflecting on Kohli’s dedication and skill, his India teammate Mohammed Shami praised his ability to excel in every aspect of the game. Shami highlighted Kohli’s focused approach and determination, noting that Kohli always strives to leave a lasting impact, regardless of any breaks he may have taken.
“Woh ek aisa banda hai jo kahin bhi rahe woh apne frame (zone) mei rehta zaroor hai. Woh jab bhi aayega, woh show karega apne aap ko ke haan ‘mai kya hu’ (he is such a person who stays focused wherever he is. Whenever he returns, he shows who he is),” said Shami on a Cricbuzz show.
Despite missing the five-Test series against England due to the birth of his son, Kohli has seamlessly returned to the IPL, showcasing his commitment and determination. Shami emphasized Kohli’s clear plans and dedication, highlighting him as a role model for the younger generation, not just in cricketing skills but also in fitness and overall commitment to the game.
“He keeps his plans very clear, be it fitness, batting. Even if you give him the bowling, he will do the job, even with his cross feet (wrong foot) action,” said Shami with a smile.
“If there are such role models for today’s generation, imagine how much they will get to learn — fitness, skill and so on. Every aspect you look at, you find loyalty for everything. That reflects in Virat Kohli.”
