New England Patriots Face Tough Decision Between Jacoby Brissett and Rookie Drake Maye for Week 1 Starting QB
As the 2024 season approaches, the New England Patriots face a key decision at quarterback, with veteran Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye both vying for the starting spot.
Bollywood Fever: As the 2024 season rapidly approaches, the New England Patriots’ roster is beginning to take shape.
However, one major question remains unanswered as Week 1 looms—the battle for the starting quarterback position.
What once seemed like an obvious choice, with veteran Jacoby Brissett expected to start, has become a much tougher decision thanks to the emergence of highly touted rookie Drake Maye.
Over the last several weeks, Maye has shown significant growth in confidence and decision-making—critical traits for any NFL quarterback.
His talent and potential, which led to his early draft selection, were on full display during the final preseason game against Washington, despite the team’s loss.

While the competition between the two quarterbacks has intensified, Brissett maintains that his relationship with the rookie remains strong.
“It’s been good. I was with Sam (Howell) who is like his best friend, and they’re very similar guys,” Brissett shared during an interview with WEEI. “We’ve met before he was even on the team, so we’ve had a relationship. And obviously, it’s not a final product. We’re still becoming closer and being around each other more and being able to talk…we’re around each other all the time…when we have downtime, we spend time together.”
Brissett was brought in not only to compete for the starting job but also to serve as a mentor and a good teammate.
His professionalism and willingness to guide Maye should be a reassuring sight for Patriots fans, knowing that they have a seasoned veteran supporting the team, no matter who ultimately takes the field as the starting quarterback.
