According to French media reports, the 39-year-old tech executive was detained following his arrival on a private jet, with the arrest linked to offences related to his widely used messaging app, Telegram.
The circumstances surrounding Durov’s arrest are still unfolding, with Russia’s TASS state news agency reporting that the Russian embassy in France is taking “immediate steps” to clarify the situation.

French TV channel TF1 also confirmed that Durov had been traveling on his private jet when he was detained.
Telegram, known for its privacy features and encrypted messaging, enjoys significant popularity in Russia, Ukraine, and other former Soviet Union states.
The app was banned in Russia in 2018 after Durov refused to hand over user data to authorities. However, this ban was lifted in 2021.
