New Zealand’s new Test captain, Tom Latham, aims to lead his team with an aggressive “no fear” approach during their upcoming series against India in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai.
BollywoodFever: New Zealand’s new Test captain, Tom Latham, has outlined his team’s “no fear” approach as they prepare for their upcoming series against India. The 32-year-old, who recently took over the captaincy from Tim Southee, emphasized the importance of playing with freedom and aggression during the challenging tour of India, where the hosts have not lost a Test series at home in over a decade.

Latham expressed optimism about the team’s strategy, stating, “Hopefully, we’ll play with a bit of freedom, bit of no fear and try take it to them. And if we do, hopefully that gives ourselves a good chance.” He noted that teams that have performed well in India have been aggressive with the bat, putting pressure on the hosts rather than waiting for something to happen.
While Latham will put his own spin on leadership, he said he does not expect a drastic change in the team’s overall approach, acknowledging the success they’ve had in Test cricket over the years. “For me, it’s just about putting my spin on things. And that may look different, it may look slightly the same, but wait and see,” he added.
Latham has led the Black Caps on several occasions as a stand-in captain, but this will be his first series as the permanent Test skipper. Notably, New Zealand will be without Kane Williamson for the first Test in Bengaluru due to a groin injury he sustained against Sri Lanka.
The first Test of the series begins in Bengaluru on Wednesday, followed by matches in Pune and Mumbai.
