The camaraderie is strong between Patrick Mahomes and his teammate on the Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce, marked by a blend of jest and respect.
In expressing his enthusiasm for the team’s latest acquisition, wide receiver Hollywood Brown, 28-year-old Mahomes couldn’t resist a friendly jab at 34-year-old Kelce, highlighting his status as one of the more seasoned members of the Chiefs.
Mahomes shared his thoughts at the 101 Awards in Missouri on Friday, March 22, praising Hollywood’s dedication and drive. “I’ve been impressed by how hungry [Hollywood’s] been. You can tell he wants to win. Obviously, he wants to do good and everybody wants to do good. But you can tell he wants to be a part of something that’s special, part of greatness,” Mahomes remarked. “We’re trying to build that here and we believe that we’ve started it and we want to continue it. We still have a young team — other than Trav.”
With a chuckle, the quarterback then emphasized the collective ambition to sustain their momentum, “If we can continue to build this with a lot of people who are hungry and wanna win, we can keep this thing going.”
Kelce, approaching his 35th birthday in October, ranks as one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ veteran players. Alongside him, teammates such as long snapper James Winchester, offensive lineman Joe Thuney, defensive back Deon Bush, and defensive tackle Mike Pennel are navigating their 30s as well.
Since joining forces in 2017, Mahomes and Kelce have enjoyed a successful partnership, highlighted by clinching their third Super Bowl victory together. Their first triumph came in 2019 against the San Francisco 49ers, followed by a win over the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023, and most recently, they secured a victory against the 49ers again, this time in an overtime thriller.
Off the field, Mahomes and Kelce’s relationship has flourished, evidenced by shared golf outings, coordinated appearances on the red carpet, leisure time at Lakers’ games, and mutual support in personal and family endeavors. This month marked a new chapter in their friendship as they ventured into the business world together.
On March 14, the announcement came from Noble 33, a global hospitality group, about partnering with the NFL stars to inaugurate a “modern steakhouse” in Kansas City, Missouri, named 1587 Prime. This venture not only reflects their jersey numbers—15 for Mahomes and 87 for Kelce—but also their commitment to their community.
Mahomes expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration in a press release, stating, “Travis and I have become frequent visitors of Noble 33 restaurants in other cities, so it only made sense to bring something special to our own community in Kansas City.” Echoing this sentiment, Kelce shared, “We’re excited to be a part of this journey with Noble 33 to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience, and what better place to start than our very own, Kansas City.”
