ABC Renews ‘9-1-1’ for Season 8 Amidst Milestone 100th Episode Celebration

ABC has announced the renewal of “9-1-1” for its eighth season.

This update follows shortly after the drama’s seventh season premiere on ABC, marking its first season on the network after transitioning from Fox.

The series is also approaching its 100th episode milestone, set to broadcast on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, and will be available for streaming on Hulu the following day.

The seventh season’s opening episode attracted around 11.8 million viewers across various platforms within its first week, making “9-1-1” the most-watched current series on ABC this season.

The series, featuring stars such as Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, was created by the trio of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, with Minear taking the reins as showrunner.

The production team includes notable names like Bassett, Krause, and others, with the series being a collaborative effort between 20th Television, Ryan Murphy Television, and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision.

The decision to renew “9-1-1” aligns with Disney’s intent to deepen its collaboration with Murphy, especially following his return to 20th Television after concluding his overall deal with Netflix.

In addition to “9-1-1,” ABC has greenlit “Dr. Odyssey,” another drama series by Murphy, alongside Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, featuring Joshua Jackson in the lead role.

Murphy’s ongoing projects include working on the FX series “Grostequerie,” a Hulu legal drama with Kim Kardashian, the “American Horror Story” franchise, and the debut of “American Sports Story” focusing on Aaron Hernandez.

Meanwhile, “9-1-1: Lone Star,” a spin-off of “9-1-1” that continues to air on Fox, has been renewed for its fifth season. Although the production faced delays due to industry strikes, the new season is expected to premiere on Fox in the fall.
