On June 20, Anthony Banks Jr. lost control of his vehicle, crashing into Riverside Baptist Church. The collision sparked a massive blaze, resulting in the teen’s death. Senior Alabama State Trooper Brandon Bailey told Alabama Live that Arellano-Maldonado was attempting to evade a Riverside police officer. She was driving a 2019 BMW X5, which had reportedly been stolen from a family member. The vehicle veered off the road and smashed into a brick wall before catching fire. Arellano-Maldonado, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the wake of these tragedies, Banks’ mother set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses. She paid tribute to her late son, writing, “He was in a horrible accident that took my precious baby boy’s life at such a young age. He just turned 19 years old 17 days ago. His life hadn’t even got started before he was tragically taken from this world.”

Friends also mourned the loss of the couple on social media. One friend posted, “My two loves, get some rest y’all will be missed. Anthony & Jennifer RIP.” Another friend described Banks as an “absolute treasure” who made everyone smile.

Riverside Fire and Rescue reported that their crews battled the initial blaze throughout the night and into the morning following Banks’ crash. “Riverside Baptist Church has been a staple in our small town for decades, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and the family of the deceased during this difficult time,” the agency wrote in a statement.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding both accidents. The tragic deaths of Anthony Banks Jr. and Jennefer Arellano-Maldonado have left their community in mourning and raised questions about the incidents leading to their untimely demise.
