Amy Adams and Jenna Ortega Spark Excitement as Potential Leads in 3000 Pictures’ ‘Klara and The Sun’ Adaptation
“Amy Adams in Talks to Join Jenna Ortega in Taika Waititi-Directed ‘Klara and the Sun’ Film Adaptation by 3000 Pictures”
Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams is currently in negotiations for a pivotal role alongside Jenna Ortega in Sony’s upcoming film adaptation of “Klara and the Sun,” directed by Taika Waititi. Based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel, the project is produced by Heyday Films’ David Heyman, Garrett Basch, and Waititi, with Ishiguro serving as an executive producer.
The narrative revolves around Klara (played by Ortega), an Artificial Friend designed to alleviate loneliness. Adams portrays a mother whose bright teen daughter, Josie, forms a special bond with the robot companion. However, Josie is grappling with a mysterious illness, and the film explores Klara’s quest to save Josie and others from heartbreak, highlighting the transformative power of human love.
Published in March 2021, Ishiguro’s novel quickly became a bestseller, reaching #3 on the New York Times’ Best Sellers Hardcover Fiction List and claiming the top spot on the Indie Best Sellers Hardcover Fiction List.
3000 Pictures secured Waititi’s commitment just before the WGA strike, making “Klara and the Sun” a priority once the strikes were resolved. With negotiations ongoing, the production is anticipated to commence in the coming weeks. Amy Adams, a six-time Oscar nominee, adds another potentially award-worthy role to her repertoire, aligning with the historical success of Ishiguro adaptations.
Adams is set to star in Marielle Heller’s “Nightbitch” for Searchlight, scheduled for release in the fall of 2024, and she also serves as a producer through her banner Bond Group Entertainment. Meanwhile, Jenna Ortega, known for her role as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series “Wednesday” directed by Tim Burton, is gearing up for the production of its second season later this year.
Amy Adams is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, attorney Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, and Narrative, while Jenna Ortega is represented by CAA, Viewpoint, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner & Klein.
