The actress, known for her role in “Wednesday,” and the actor, famous for his part in “The Hobbit,” share the screen in “Miller’s Girl,” a black comedy-drama set for release in Australia on March 21. In the film, Ortega portrays Cairo Sweet, an 18-year-old student, while Freeman plays her teacher.
Their characters become entangled in an inappropriate relationship after Sweet attempts to seduce her teacher—a plot development that has garnered criticism from viewers.

This marks another controversy for Ortega, who recently exited “Scream VII,” a decision seemingly unrelated to her co-star Melissa Barrera’s dismissal.
Ortega also faced backlash for her appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, where she admitted to occasionally altering lines on set, leading to accusations of being “unprofessional.
In response to the criticism, Ortega reaffirmed her stance in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, emphasizing the importance of asserting herself in the industry.
Despite the controversy, some viewers of “Miller’s Girl” found Ortega’s scenes with Freeman less troubling, with one individual humorously pointing out on X, “Everyone’s making a fuss about ‘Miller’s Girl’ due to the age gap. But let’s not forget, Hobbits age differently—Martin Freeman’s really just 17 1/2. Jenna Ortega’s the real cradle robber here.”
