Charlotte the Stingray Passes Away
Charlotte the Stingray, who gained fame for her mysterious pregnancy, has passed away due to illness. The Aquarium and Shark Lab in Hendersonville mourns her loss.
Bollywood Fever: The beloved Charlotte the Stingray has sadly passed away, leaving fans and caretakers heartbroken. The Aquarium and Shark Lab in Hendersonville, North Carolina, announced Charlotte’s death on Sunday, following treatment for an illness.

Expressing gratitude for the support received during Charlotte’s unconventional journey, the aquarium stated it would remain temporarily closed. However, the care for the other fish will continue during this period.
Charlotte became an Internet sensation in February after the aquarium revealed her unexpected pregnancy despite not sharing a tank with a male stingray for eight years. This sparked numerous theories, with the most popular being parthenogenesis, a form of asexual reproduction, while others speculated about another sea creature impregnating her.

Charlotte’s story even reached “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Saturday Night Live,” where Ego Nwodim humorously portrayed the viral stingray on ‘Weekend Update.’
By late May, Charlotte still hadn’t given birth, prompting aquarium owner Brenda Ramer to update the public. It was revealed that Charlotte was never pregnant but was suffering from a reproductive disease called diapause. Brenda also addressed accusations of a pregnancy hoax, firmly stating that no details of Charlotte’s journey were fabricated.

Charlotte was estimated to be between 12 and 14 years old, while the average lifespan of a stingray is around a decade. Her story captivated many and brought joy and curiosity to her fans. The aquarium community mourns the loss of Charlotte, who left an indelible mark on their hearts.
