Deka Simmons was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being found guilty of the 2022 murder and dismemberment of Daxcimo Ceja, a registered sex offender.
Bollywood Fever: A Colorado Springs woman, Deka Simmons, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2022 killing and dismemberment of 48-year-old Daxcimo Ceja.
The verdict was delivered earlier this week, followed immediately by her sentencing in El Paso County District Court.
Simmons, 35, was convicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and tampering with a deceased human body.
In addition to her life sentence, she received an extra 24 years for the tampering with a deceased body charge and another three years for tampering with physical evidence.
The case first came to light on October 5, 2023, when Ceja’s dismembered remains were discovered in a bag inside a drainage pipe, following an anonymous tip to the Colorado Springs police.

The remains were later identified as belonging to Ceja, who had been missing and was believed to be the victim of a homicide. Simmons had already been arrested in April 2022 in connection with the crime.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Simmons targeted Ceja because of his status as a registered sex offender.
According to Prosecutor Sharon Flaherty, Simmons harbored an “unrestrained hatred” for anyone involved in crimes against children, which she described as a “fixation” and “paranoia.”
Ceja had previously been involved in a relationship with a 17-year-old girl in California when he was 25, and at the time of his death, he had a warrant out for failing to register as a sex offender.
Simmons’ intense fears for her daughter, whom she believed was at risk of being trafficked, were also highlighted during the trial. At one point during the sentencing, Simmons lashed out at Judge David Gilbert after he referenced those fears, exclaiming, “You don’t know s–t about me! F–k you!”
Testimonies against Simmons included statements from a former jail roommate who claimed Simmons admitted to killing a man she believed was a child molester.
Another detective testified that a witness claimed to have seen parts of the murder, alleging that Simmons shot Ceja, dismembered his body, and stored it in a freezer. Blood samples found in Simmons’ garage were also matched to Ceja’s DNA.
Simmons’ defense team attempted to challenge the credibility of the witnesses and argued that the scientific evidence did not directly link Simmons to the murder. However, the jury ultimately found her guilty on all charges.
Before the sentencing, Ceja’s parents, Karen and Barry Fancher, delivered emotional victim-impact statements. He was killed for something he did 24 years ago,” said his mother. “She [Simmons] won’t be on the street to hurt anyone else’s families like she has done her whole entire life.” His father added, “Dax was a good person. He didn’t deserve to go out this way.”
With her sentencing, Simmons will spend the rest of her life behind bars, ensuring that she will never harm another family again.
