Daytona 500: Massive Crash Takes Out Half the Field, William Byron Emerges Victorious
The Daytona 500‘s climactic moments were overshadowed by a massive crash, involving 23 cars in total, causing chaos and drama in the final laps of the renowned race.
The mayhem unfolded at Daytona International Speedway in Florida, triggered by a nudge from Alex Bowman to William Byron, sending Byron’s No. 24 car careening into Brad Keselowski’s vehicle and igniting a chain reaction of collisions.
A replay from the race broadcast captured the intensity as over half of the 40 vehicles in the field became entangled in the melee. Miraculously, Byron emerged unscathed amidst the wreckage.
Following a cleanup of the track and another set of drivers wrecking, Byron, the underdog, was declared the unexpected winner, sparking jubilant celebrations and disbelief from the 26-year-old driver.
The race faced a one-day delay due to rain, with special guest Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson rallying the crowd.
Bubba Wallace claimed sixth place, while Kyle Busch finished 12th, and Jimmie Johnson, a two-time Daytona 500 victor, settled for 28th after an early wreck.
