Girona manager Michel is concerned about injuries to Oriol Romeu and Daley Blind ahead of their historic Champions League game against Feyenoord, following a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo.
BollywoodFever: Girona manager Michel expressed concern over injuries to key players Oriol Romeu and Daley Blind after his side’s 1-1 LaLiga draw at Celta Vigo on Sunday. With a Champions League match against Feyenoord looming on Wednesday, the injuries come at a difficult time for the Catalan club.
Romeu, a Spanish defensive midfielder, was forced off just 14 minutes into the match, while Dutch defender Blind was substituted in the second half. Girona, competing in the Champions League for the first time in their history after finishing third in LaLiga last season, are facing the challenge of balancing a packed schedule.
Injury Concerns and Lack of Experience
Michel admitted that his team is not accustomed to the demands of playing every three days, stating, “That’s the biggest concern I have about the game.” He added, “We don’t have experience of playing every three days. If Romeu is out for several weeks, we will be left with a weak team.”
Michel acknowledged that Girona’s situation is different from that of bigger clubs, saying, “We are inexperienced and every day we are looking for solutions to the new reality.”
Despite Injuries, Michel Pleased with Team’s Performance
Despite extending their winless streak to four LaLiga matches, Michel was pleased with Girona’s overall performance against Celta. “I’m happy because I have the feeling that my team dominated with the ball,” Michel said, noting that Celta put his side under pressure early in the second half.
Girona currently sits 12th in LaLiga with nine points from eight games, while Celta Vigo moved up to ninth with 10 points.
With their first-ever Champions League match approaching, Girona will hope for quick recoveries for their injured players as they navigate the challenges of a congested fixture list.
