Guimaraes Shines as Newcastle Secures European Spot with 4-2 Win Over Brentford

Bruno Guimaraes scored one goal and assisted two others as Newcastle United triumphed 4-2 over Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday, setting the stage for a potential return to European football next season. This possibility hinges on Manchester City’s success in next weekend’s FA Cup Final.

The victory secured Newcastle a seventh-place finish, which qualifies them for the Europa Conference League—unless Manchester United wins the FA Cup, in which case Newcastle’s spot will go to sixth-placed Chelsea. Brentford finished the season in 16th place.

In the 21st minute, Harvey Barnes headed home a cross from Guimaraes. Shortly after, Alexander Isak set up Jacob Murphy and then scored himself off a Guimaraes through ball, giving Newcastle a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Vitaly Janelt pulled one back for Brentford shortly after the restart, and Yoane Wissa further narrowed the gap with 20 minutes to play. However, Guimaraes sealed the victory with a tap-in in the 77th minute.
