Following the deadly blast at the Iranian consulate in Syria, Israel’s Foreign Minister Katz warns of direct retaliation against Iran if attacked, amid heightened tensions and vows of retribution from Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, in a definitive stance, warned on Wednesday of a direct retaliation against Iran should the Islamic Republic initiate an assault from its soil on Israel. This statement escalates the ongoing tensions following a deadly explosion at the Iranian consulate in Syria, which resulted in the deaths of several Iranian generals.

Israel Katz, utilizing the social media platform X, and posting in both Farsi and Hebrew, declared, “If Iran attacks from its territory, Israel will respond and attack in Iran.

These comments surfaced subsequent to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowing early Wednesday to seek vengeance against Israel for the consulate bombing in Damascus, which Tehran attributes to Israel. The attack demolished the facility and claimed 12 lives, amidst anticipation of Iranian retaliation that would mark a significant intensification in the covert conflict between the nations. Israel has not confirmed its role in the incident.

During a prayer service marking the conclusion of Ramadan, Khamenei characterized the airstrike as a severe transgression, equating it to an infringement on Iranian sovereignty. “The evil regime must be punished, and it will be punished,” he asserted, as per Iranian state television.

Details on the form of retaliation from either side were not disclosed.

The explosion on April 1st resulted in the deaths of seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, along with four Syrians and a Hezbollah militia member.

Khamenei also voiced criticism towards Western countries, particularly the U.S. and Britain, for their backing of Israel amidst the conflict with Hamas in Gaza, lamenting their lack of intervention.

Iran, known for its support of militant groups such as Hamas in Palestine and Hezbollah in Lebanon, does not acknowledge Israel’s statehood.
