“Jay-Z and Beyonce Break Record with $200 Million Purchase of a Sprawling Malibu Mansion Resembling a Spaceship”

Previously, venture capitalist Marc Andreesen held the title for the most expensive single-family home purchase in US history with a $177 million acquisition of a 7-acre Malibu estate in October 2021. However, Jay-Z and Beyonce have now surpassed that record. According to TMZ, the power couple recently bought an 8-acre Malibu estate for $200 million, featuring an impressive 30,000 square foot concrete mansion that resembles a spaceship.

During their extensive three-year house hunt, Jay-Z and Beyonce encountered challenges in finding their ideal L.A. dream home, despite having a budget of up to $80 million. In 2014, they lost a bidding war for a $70 million Beverly Hills mansion to Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft, who offered the same amount but with no contingencies and an all-cash payment.

The following year, the couple set their sights on another Beverly Hills mansion but were outbid again, as designer Tom Ford’s offer of $50 million trumped their $49 million bid. Interestingly, Jay Z had previously recorded a song titled “Tom Ford” in 2013, where he referenced wearing the designer’s clothes.

Finally, in August 2017, they discovered their current home—a contemporary-style Bel Air mansion. Despite its estimated asking price of $120 million, Jay-Z and Beyonce managed to purchase it for a remarkable $88 million, making it the highest-selling transaction in Los Angeles County in 2017.
