Kaylee Gain Awakens from Coma, Starts Speaking Following Severe Assault by High School Peer

Bollywoodfever, March, 30: The teenage girl from Missouri, who fell into a coma following a severe physical assault where her head was forcefully hit against the pavement after school, is gradually recovering but cannot remember the incident.

Sixteen-year-old Kaylee Gain has started to have “limited verbal conversations” since being moved from the ICU, as shared by her family on Friday.

“Kaylee has also initiated speech therapy and has managed a few brief walks with help from hospital personnel, given her current inability to walk by herself,” stated Bryan Kaemmerer, the family’s attorney and spokesperson.

He also noted, “Kaylee has no memory of the event that resulted in her hospitalization.”

This progress is a beacon of hope for Kaylee’s recovery, defying initial fears from her family that she might not overcome the brain injuries and skull fracture sustained during the altercation.

A video from the March 8 incident near Hazelwood East High School in Spanish Lake captured a girl forcefully slamming Kaylee’s head into the concrete multiple times.

The 15-year-old aggressor has since been arrested and faces assault charges.

On Friday, the Gain family criticized the attacker for allegedly making light of the assault in social media posts, suggesting it made her eligible for MMA or WWE, which have since been removed.

“Kaylee started convulsing almost immediately after the attack, making the severity of her injuries evident,” Kaemmerer pointed out, condemning the attacker’s indifference to Kaylee’s well-being as evidence of her being a continued risk to others.

Both Kaylee’s family and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey advocate for the assailant to be tried as an adult, citing her previous academic achievements as evidence of her understanding of the attack’s potential consequences.

The underlying reasons and the full context of the assault remain uncertain.

Following another incident that led to suspension for Kaylee and another student the day before the attack — which resulted in no injuries — her family suspects the assault was retaliatory.
