After two decades on General Hospital, Kelly Monaco is set to exit the ABC daytime soap this fall. Monaco, known for her role as Sam McCall, has been a fan favorite since 2003.

Bollywood Fever: Kelly Monaco, a beloved fixture on General Hospital, is set to exit the long-running ABC daytime soap opera after more than two decades.

A source exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly that Monaco, 48, will bid farewell to the fictional town of Port Charles through an upcoming storyline this fall. The news of her departure was first reported by Soap Opera Network.

Monaco has portrayed the character of Sam McCall on General Hospital since 2003, captivating audiences with her dramatic storylines and dynamic relationships.

Before joining the cast of General Hospital, Monaco played Livvie Locke on the soap Port Charles, a role that earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2003.

She received another nomination in 2006 for her work on General Hospital.

In addition to her soap opera success, Monaco gained widespread recognition when she competed in the inaugural season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars 19 years ago.

Her impressive performances earned her the Mirror Ball trophy. Monaco later returned for the series’ All Stars edition in 2012, where she and her professional dance partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, placed third.

The duo’s chemistry was so well-loved that Chmerkovskiy even made a cameo on General Hospital as a boxer.

In 2017, Monaco once again graced the Dancing With the Stars stage, performing the rumba with NFL star Terrell Owens and dance pro Cheryl Burke.

Earlier this year, actress Lindsay Hartley filled in for Monaco during an episode of General Hospital, a role she had previously taken on in 2020 and 2022.

Despite her occasional absences, Monaco has remained a staple of the show, most recently appearing in the soap’s 60th anniversary primetime special in January, where she reunited with Chmerkovskiy for the occasion.

Monaco expressed her excitement about the special on Instagram, sharing a photo with Chmerkovskiy and writing, “I put my dancing shoes back on for the @GeneralHospital primetime special (featuring a special appearance by @valentin). General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling airs tomorrow (January 4th) at 10pm on ABC. Don’t miss it!”

As Monaco prepares to depart General Hospital, her fans and colleagues will undoubtedly miss her presence on the show. Her legacy as Sam McCall will remain a significant part of the soap’s rich history.
