Kevin Hart Receives Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for Humor
On Sunday, the Kennedy Center celebrated Kevin Hart by awarding him the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, an evening filled with laughter and accolades from comedy legends like Dave Chappelle, Chelsea Handler, and Jerry Seinfeld, all paying homage to Hart’s impactful career.
This special event, set to be broadcasted on Netflix on May 11, showcased Hart’s colleagues honoring him with a blend of humor, heartfelt sentiment, and the occasional expletive.

Dave Chappelle, who himself has received this prestigious award, praised Hart from the stage, saying, “You remind me … why I love comedy so much,” and humorously mentioned he skipped a trip to Jamaica for the ceremony. “I am honored to know somebody like you. I really wish you had come when I won this award.”
At 44, Hart became the proud recipient of the 25th Mark Twain Prize, joining a revered list of past honorees like Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Stewart, and Carol Burnett.
In his acceptance, Hart expressed his gratitude towards his colleagues for their support, describing the award as amazing.
Hart’s versatile career spans across comedy, film, television, and even entrepreneurship, notably through his success in movies such as “Ride Along” and “Fatherhood,” and the founding of the media company HARTBEAT in 2022.
Chelsea Handler playfully recalled Hart’s ambitious declaration of future stardom during an early appearance on her talk show, highlighting his undeniable drive and hard work that led to his current acclaim. “It was clear from the moment we met that he was destined for superstardom, especially when he told me he was destined for superstardom,” she quipped.
Jerry Seinfeld praised Hart’s universally appealing nature and aptly suited surname, joking about the seemingly effortless success of Hart’s career.
Adding a personal touch to the evening, comedian Keith Robinson, who has overcome a stroke, shared a humorous anecdote about reaching out to Hart for help while mistakenly placed in a COVID ward, only for Hart to amusingly fall short of his promise to resolve the situation, much to the amusement of the audience.
