LeBron James Surprises Duquesne Basketball Team with Sneakers Before NCAA Tournament
Before their NCAA Tournament opening game, the Duquesne basketball team received an exciting surprise: new LeBron James XXI sneakers, courtesy of LeBron James himself!
The Lakers star arranged for the white and light blue shoes to be sent to the 11th-seeded team ahead of their Thursday match against 6th-seeded BYU in the East Region of the tournament.
The team’s excitement was palpable upon receiving the sneakers, and they expressed immense gratitude for the thoughtful gesture.
The recently released LeBron 21s “Blue Diver,” featuring Air Zoom cushioning and a glow-in-the-dark outsole, draw inspiration from an Oyster shell. The design also holds sentimental value, symbolizing James’ protective nature towards his daughter, Zhuri, much like a shell safeguards a pearl.
The connection between James and Duquesne lies with Keith Dambrot, James’ former high school coach, who has led the Dukes since 2017.
This gift arrived just as Duquesne prepared for a significant moment in their history, their first NCAA tournament appearance in 47 years, and their first Final 4 since 1940, 84 years ago.
LeBron James closely followed the game, celebrating Duquesne’s thrilling 71-67 victory over BYU on social media with a shout-out to his former coach and the team, emphasizing the impact of the sneakers with, “YEAAAAHHHH @DruOnDemand LFG!!!! Go Dukes @DuqMBB.”
Indeed, sometimes, the right shoes can make all the difference!
