The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that no political clearance was sought from or issued by it for the travel of suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to Germany. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also noted that diplomatic passport holders do not require a visa to travel to Germany.
Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, faces allegations of sexual harassment from several women and is reportedly in Germany. The Janata Dal (Secular) has suspended the Hassan MP.
“In respect of the travel of the said MP to Germany, no Political Clearance was either sought from or issued by MEA,” Jaiswal stated during his weekly media briefing, addressing queries regarding the MP’s reported travel.
“No visa note was issued either. No visa is required for diplomatic passport holders to travel to Germany. The Ministry has not issued a visa note for any other country,” he added.
When asked about the possibility of revoking Revanna’s passport due to the sexual harassment allegations, Jaiswal did not provide a direct response.
“As regards the possible revocation of the passport of any individual, I would refer you to the relevant provisions of the Passport Act 1967. We are not in receipt of any directions from any court in this regard,” he said.
The Karnataka government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the allegations against Revanna.
